Wainscoting & Wallpaper

At My Georgetown Handyman, we are fortunate to work with a crew of talented and personable handymen and women. The following is a project one of our senior techs worked on and project managed in the last few weeks.

Their work area was a typical bedroom and bathroom. In May, we were approached by a client to paint, hang wallpaper and wainscotting for a nursery and paint the attached bathroom. We were happy to implement the client’s vision. The team completed the work over 7 days.

Prep included protecting areas of the house they walk through to carry supplied and the cut wainscotting. They also masked the carpet with plastic to protect it from paint and other stains.

The application of wainscoting and wallpaper both require drywall that’s leveled and smoothed. To prep the walls for wallpaper, a skim coat is applied. Once dried, it is sandpaper and primed.  Once the prep was done, the fun started.

First, they installed trim, the top cap and spacer boards for the wainscoting. The top cap included a groove for pictures.

They adjusted the outlets to accommodate wainscoting and finished with paintable covers. Switches disappeared by covering with wallpaper while seamlessly staying within the pattern.

Finally, they hung the wallpaper and painted. They wallpapered the plug and light switch faceplates and stayed within the pattern. Their diligence and attention to detail produced wonderful results. The finished room looks gorgeous.
