Bathroom Remodel, Part 1

As a practice project and upgrade to our home, we’re remodeling a bathroom. This will give team members the opportunity to practice skills they may want to learn or improve. It’s a relatively small bathroom that desperately needed an update, and it’s the type of project that includes interesting issues (if DIY is your thing).  Starting a project like this can feel overwhelming but breaking it down to discrete steps helps:

  1. Define Your Goals
  2. Set a Budget
  3. Gather Inspiration
  4. Measure and Plan the Space
  5. Pull Permits if Necessary
  6. Choose Materials and Fixtures
  7. Create a Timeline (consider including a buffer for unexpected issues)
  8. Prepare for Disruption
  9. Start the Renovation

Almost all home improvement projects begin with some sort of demolition. Some think this is the best part of the project. Also include a plan to dispose of materials that won’t be used. Items that are in good shape can be donated to Habitat Restore. Other materials can be taken to the local landfill. Another option includes renting a dumpster to keep on site until you’re done. It will be removed with your trash when you’re done with it. Check with your HOA to see if you can have a dumpster for a limited time on your property.

Here are some before and demo pictures from our project.
